India Week Hamburg 2021
Hamburg and India have been linked for centuries through foreign trade. Economic relations have given rise to a wide range of cooperation in key fields of science, culture, and civil society. 70 years ago, Germany and India established diplomatic relations. Shortly afterwards, in 1954, the consular mission in Hamburg was founded. Today India is one of Hamburg’s most important partner countries in the Asia-Pacific region. These strong and long-lasting ties are celebrated during India Week Hamburg.
The first India Week Hamburg took place in 2007. What was designed as a handful of purely economic events, continuously evolved into a colourful programme that highlights all aspects of Indo-Hamburgian relations. In 2021, we celebrated the ninth edition and 15 years of India Week Hamburg with over 75 events. The India Week took place on November 8 to 14, 2021. The numerous events offered a wide range of topics from politics, society, science, economy, culture and sports.
The event was held at a time when the world was beginning to emerge from the pandemic. Luckily, a strict hygiene concept to prevent the spread of corona made it possible to host a senate reception with several hundred guests.
Over the years, India Week Hamburg has evolved to be identified as a key influential event, having made an exceptional contribution towards deepening the economic, cultural, and people-to people ties between India and Germany.
The event is organised by the Senate chancellery of Hamburg and many more stakeholders active in this field.
The kick off event was a conference at the Hamburg India Business Day 2021.
The hybrid conference was based on the topic of economic recovery after the pandemic and implications of the „self-reliant India“. Keynote Speaker Sanjeev Sanjal, Principal Economic Advisor to the Government of India, renowned economist, and bestselling author, analysed how economic reconstruction is shaping up in India.
Policy makers came together for a range of breakout sessions on business-relevant issues including implications of the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Law, tax and investment, innovation and green hydrogen.
This year was the 10-year anniversary of Hamburg Representation Office in Mumbai.
As a part of the India Week, the 10 year anniversary celebration was a fun filled event attended by the partners and friends of HRM. The anniversary celebration was rounded up with an interesting knowledge quiz and performances followed by dance, drinks and food!
The Hamburg representative office in Mumbai (HRM) was set up in 2011, making it easier for companies from Hamburg to enter the Indian market and vice versa.
