Gateway of India
The Gateway of India was built from 1911 to 1924 in honour of the visit of King George V to India. Later on, it was used for the entrance ceremonies of the Viceroys of India. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CST)
The major train station, built in 1887, was originally known as Victoria Terminus. It is the headquarters of the Indian central railways. In 1996, the railway station was renamed after Chhatrapati Shivaji, the founder of the Maratha Empire. The building was declared an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.
Elephanta Caves
The Elephanta Caves, located onthe Elephanta Island, are so named because of the huge stone statues of elephants found on this island. The island is a UNESCO World Heritage site with many cave temples that are mostly dedicated to Lord Shiva. The island can be reached by boat from Mumbai.
