INS Tabar’s Visit to Hamburg: Strengthening Indo-German Naval Ties
The Indian Navy’s frontline frigate, INS Tabar, visited Hamburg, Germany, from July 17 to 20, 2024. This visit underscored the deepening naval cooperation between India and Germany, highlighting their shared commitment to global peace and security.
During its stay, INS Tabar’s crew engaged in a series of activities aimed at fostering professional and cultural exchanges. Key events included interactions between the Indian and German Navies, a visit to the German Naval Academy, and an OpenShip tour for the public, allowing visitors to explore the advanced capabilities of the stealth frigate. Additionally, the crew participated in a community service event at a local Old Age Home, further emphasizing the Indian Navy’s commitment to goodwill and cultural diplomacy.
Upon departing from Hamburg, INS Tabar participated in a Maritime Partnership Exercise with the German Navy, enhancing interoperability and mutual understanding between the two naval forces. This exercise was a testament to the strong and evolving defense partnership between India and Germany.

INS Tabar, commanded by Captain MR Harish, is a stealth frigate built in Russia and among the earliest of its kind in the Indian Navy. This visit not only strengthened the naval ties between India and Germany but also provided a platform to showcase India’s naval prowess and cultural heritage to the world.
