In a rapidly changing world, it can often be challenging for countries to nurture long-lasting partnerships – but Hamburg and India have gloriously pulled it off. The two partners have continually shared a close relationship, traversing the fields of culture, academics and economics. Umpteen initiatives from the past exemplify this bond, such as Hamburg and Hyderabad’s joint project for cultural promotion, or students at a renowned Indian institute visiting the Hanseatic City for discussions. The beginning of this relationship goes back to a meeting in Hamburg in 1942, where India’s National Anthem was officially played for the first time in history. Since then, the two nations have proactively nurtured this connection. Over the past 13 years, an initiative that has been instrumental in this quest is the ‘India Week Hamburg’. 

The India Week Hamburg is a week of events around politics, society, science, business, culture and sport that occurs annually at various locations across Hamburg. Aimed at deepening ties between India and Hamburg, this event provides an excellent opportunity for individuals and institutions to present their work, network and experience the richness of Indian culture. The tenth India Week Hamburg is all set to take place from 20th to 26th November 2023. It is skilfully put together under the leadership of the Senate Chancellery by esteemed organizers, including the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, the OAV, Hamburg Invest, the Hamburg Representative Office in Mumbai, the German-Indian Round Table, the Ministry of Culture and Media and the Consulate General of the Republic of India in Hamburg. India Week Hamburg allows visitors to participate in over 60 to 80 events covering thought-provoking panel discussions on social issues alongside workshops on dance, Yoga, and football, among others. And what is more, the scrumptious and savory cuisines delightfully await the visitors.

The event welcomes all individuals and institutions who find themselves associated with India in any way to organize or simply to participate. Its inclusiveness makes India more approachable to a larger part of society. India Week Hamburg ensures that no one leaves without something of value. It not only offers profound cultural experiences but also opens doors for meaningful exchanges and growth. This event affirms that despite challenges, myriad opportunities lie ahead of India and Hamburg, in readiness for the two partners to work together in synergy.
